Leonid Gorokhov studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatoire and was a prizewinner at several major international competitions. In 1995 the European Association for Encouragement of the Arts awarded him the Cultural Achievement Prize for “exceptional talent and outstanding artistic accomplishment”.

In 1991 Leonid Gorokhov appeared as soloist with the St. Petersburg Philharmonic conducted by Lord Menuhin; their strong musical rapport led to many years of mutual collaboration in many countries.  Leonid has played as soloist with orchestras including the Royal Philarmonic, the Philharmonia, the St. Petersburg Capella, the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra, the Prague Philharmonic, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and several BBC orchestras.  He has appeared at the Athens Megaron and BargeMusic New York as well as at many prestigious international festivals including Kuhmo, Munich, Perth (Scotland), Schleswig-Holstein and Spoleto. He also undertakes regular recital and concert tours of the Far East. He is a founder member of the Hermitage String Trio, an ensemble which has received excellent press and which has played at venues including the Lincoln Festival and the Wigmore Hall.

In addition to his career as a soloist and chamber musician, Leonid Gorokhov teaches at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and at the Hochschule fur Musik und Theater, Hannover, Germany.  He has an extensive discography including two recordings of Russian repertoire and of Schubert with Nikolai Demidenko.
