Praised for his “protean range of expression” (The Washington Post) and “enthralling and atmospherically dense” performances (Der Tagesspiegel Berlin), Vladimir Stoupel has been a guest soloist with orchestras including the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, the Russian State Orchestra and the Staatskapelle Weimar. He has collaborated with conductors such as Christian Thielemann and Michail Jurowski and has appeared on many of the world’s notable stages, including Berlin’s Philharmonie and Konzerthaus, Avery Fisher Hall in New York and the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC, to name just a few. He is a frequent guest at international festivals such as the Schleswig-Holstein Musikfestival, Festival Piano en Valois (France) and Bargemusic New York. As a chamber musician, Vladimir Stoupel has collaborated with, among others, the Breuninger Quartet, the violist Tabea Zimmermann and the cellist Leonid Gorokhov. He also regularly performs with the violinist Judith Ingolfsson as the Ingolfsson-Stoupel Duo.

His extensive discography spans a large variety of styles and periods, including Shostakovich, Arnold Schoenberg, Schumann and Brahms, as well as the complete sonatas of Alexander Scriabin, for which he received the “Excellentia” Luxembourg award. His recording of Henri Vieuxtemps’ complete works for viola and piano with violist Thomas Selditz received the coveted “German Record Critics’ Award“ (Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik).

Vladimir Stoupel studied piano and conducting at the Moscow Conservatory. His professors were, among others, Lazar Berman and Gennady Rozhdestvensky. A Laureate of the Geneva International Music Competition, Vladimir Stoupel is now living in Berlin.
