Cyril Rovery studied singing at the National Conservatoire of Marseille from 1995 till 2000 in the class of Tibère Rafalli, unanimously winning a first prize and Gold Medal upon graduation. He then sought the advice of Gabriel Bacquier, Renato Bruson, Alain Fondary, Robert Massard, Leo Nucci, Benno Schollum, and won a first prize at the Mâcon International Competition in 1999, as well as a first prize and the public prize at the International Sienna Competition in 2002.

He started performing while still a student, singing Schaunard (La Bohème), Escamillo (Carmen) and Masetto (Don Giovanni) as well as oratorios, cantatas and contemporary music. But his career was really launched in 2001 with his appearance as Escamillo at the Kanazawa Opera, in Japan. Numerous engagements followed at the operas of Avignon (La Traviata, with Patrizia Cioffi), Massy (Pelléas et Mélisande), Marseille (Madama Butterfly, Lucrèce Borgia, Tosca, Rigoletto), Lille, Nantes, Angers, Nancy and Montpellier. At the Opéra du Rhin he sang in Les Troyens, Boris Godunov and L’Africaine, working with Michel Plasson and Béatrice Uria-Monzon.

While essentially an opera baritone, he is also interested in other genres, including songs (he has interpreted all the melodies of Duparc with J.-F. Ballèvre), lieder (Winterreise), oratorios and cantatas (Ich habe genug, Marseille Festival of Religious Music 2009).

In July 2008, he gave a recital with Evelina Pitti at the Nuits Musicales of the Marseille Conservatoire, including Wagner arias and the entire Winterreise cycle. He was also invited to sing a version of Liszt’s Trois Sonnets de Pétrarque at the Toursky Theatre (with the pianist Cyril Huvé), and he appeared at the Festival d’Aix-côté Cour (La Servante Maîtresse, Pergolesi), in Warsaw (Amfortas in Parsifal and La Voix du Ciel, in L’Hirondelle inatendue by Simon Laks) and in Marseille (Antonio in Schylock by Finzi, Festival of Forbidden Music 2010). In October 2011, he will sing in a new production of Roméo et Juliette at the Marseille Opera, together with the Soprano Patricia Cioffi.
