Ib Hausmann was appointed principal clarinet player of the Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra at the age of 20, two years later he changed in the same position to the Staatskapelle in Berlin. He is both at home in the traditional as well as in contemporary clarinet repertoire, he improvises, composes, realizes projects with actors like Klaus Maria Brandauer and Burghart Klaussner, is partner of numerous internationally acclaimed soloists, string quartets and chamber ensembles. He has worked with the Ensemble Modern, the Ensemble musikFabrik and the ensemble recherche. He was awarded the German Record Critics Award for his recordings of Max Reger’s Clarinet Sonatas (with Nina Tichman) and for a CD of works by Berthold Goldschmidt. In 2002, EMI released a recording with works by Prokofieff (also featuring Tabea Zimmermann, Julia Fischer, Lars Vogt and others). For Deutsche Grammophon he recorded the Double Concerto for Piano and Clarinet by Gerhard Frommel and the CD Terezin, Music from Theresienstadt (with Anne Sofie von Otter and Christian Gerhaher), which was nominated for a Grammy in 2008.
